性质描述:

无色液体。熔点-23.2℃，沸点165℃，54.5-55℃（1866.5Pa），相对密度0.9062（25/25℃），粘度（20℃）0.94mPa·s，折射率1.53864（20℃），闪点57.8℃（开杯），自燃点573.89℃。溶于醚、苯、氯仿，不溶于水。受热或催化剂作用下易聚合。在空气中爆炸极限0.7%-3.4%。工业品通常加入0.005-0.02%对叔丁基邻苯二酚作阻聚剂。

生产方法:

在异丙苯法生产苯酚和丙酮时，副产α-甲基苯乙烯，年产万吨苯酚和丙酮的装置，约副产α-甲基苯乙烯500t。将异丙苯在催化剂存在下脱氢也可得到该品。但在工业中往往是将副产的α-甲基苯乙烯加氢转变为异丙苯。

用途:

本品用作聚合物单体，如丁甲苯橡胶和耐高温塑料。也可用以制取涂料、热熔胶、增塑剂以及合成麝香等。在日本，90%的α-甲基苯乙烯用作ABS树脂的改性剂，其余用作溶剂和有机合成的原料。
